Norman Cooper—A Man of Contrast
Self-reliant yet totally depended
upon God
Served in the Air Force yet became a
Quaker Pacifist
Spiritual Healer yet used Medicine
Needed time alone yet loved to be
with people
Always calm yet loved excitement
Norman was a self-reliant person—no
challenge was ever too much for him; no situation ever worried him. Yet
he would be the first to say he didn’t do all this himself. He had
faith that God knew how to handle the situation and would be
leading him.
When he was drafted in World War II
he knew that he could not kill anyone but depended upon the God-power
to show him how he could be of service to his country. He did what he
believed right at that time, but later he was to oppose all war and
become a Quaker.
He was a spiritual healer and
personally knew the power of the Divine in healing yet the firmly
believed that God worked through the medical profession too.
He took time every day to be quiet
and alone with the divine Source of all being, yet he loved people and
being with them. He would say, “I serve God by serving my fellow human
beings.”
Norman loved to be in a situation
where there was excitement yet he always remained calm. He felt that
for calmness to be valid, it had to be carried over into the situations
of everyday life.
